One U.S. Episcopal Church Becomes Catholic - A Sign Of Things To Come?

Mount Calvary Episcopal Church in Baltimore
(Catholic Online) - In a letter to parishioners, the Reverend Jason Cantania, rector of Mount Calvary Episcopal Church in Baltimore, Maryland, announced that the vestry of the parish had voted unanimously in favor of two resolutions. First, they have voted to leave The Episcopal Church (TEC) where they are a part of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, and, second, to become an Anglican Use parish in the Catholic Church through the new initiative from Rome - the Anglicorum Coetibus.

Under the terms of this apostolic constitution, the Church has provided opportunities for "personal ordinariates for Anglicans entering full communion with the Catholic Church." As an Anglican Use parish, they will be authorized to use an authorized version of the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer called the "Book of Divine Worship."

Mount Calvary Episcopal Church, founded in 1842, is located in the heart of the city of Baltimore. On their website they describe themselves as a parish that has "borne faithful witness to the essential truth of Catholic Christianity and the tradition of the Oxford Movement for over 150 years, and remains to this day a bulwark of orthodox Anglo-Catholic practice...

Shariah Law Becomes Greatest Security Threat Ever

(CNSNews.com) – A team of national security experts assembled by the conservative Center for Security Policy, a Washington, D.C., think tank, issued a report last week warning of that Shariah law--which they described as a "legal-political-military doctrine"--is the "preeminent totalitarian threat of our time."

The team was led by retired Lt. Gen. William G. "Jerry" Boykin, the former deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence, and Lt. Gen. Harry Edward Soyster, the former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency. It also included, among others, James Woolsey, the former director of Central Intelligence Agency; retired Adm. James A. Lyons, the former commander in chief of the Pacific Fleet; Joseph E. Schmitz, the former inspector general of the Defense Department; Frank Gaffney, the former assistant secretary of defense for international security policy and current president of the Center for Security Policy; and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew C. McCarthy, who successfully prosecuted Omar Abdel Rahman, the Muslim jihadist leader convicted of being the mastermind behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

The group drew a distinction between Muslims who embrace Shariah law as the comprehensive model for governing all human society and those who view it as a reference point for personal behavior but not for the conduct of government and the state...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: I'm glad to see some honest clarity finally coming out on this issue.  Unlike regular Muslims, the Islamists consist of mainly two groups - terrorists and moles.  The terrorists are the obvious group.  They're the one's out there strapping bombs to themselves and hijacking jet planes.  The  moles are a much more subtle group.  They are those who live and work in the Western world alongside regular Muslims.  Their goals are identical with the terrorists, but they disagree with the terrorist methods.  Rather than using force against the Western world, they would instead impose Shariah law on the Western world using the West's own weaknesses against it.  All throughout Europe, and in various places in the United States (including the Whitehouse), it seems that more and more high profile leaders are beginning to favor Shariah law.  It starts subtly, with the notion that areas consisting of predominantly Muslim populations should be able to rule themselves using their own legal standards.  Since those standards often surpass the bare minimum required by secular law, "limited Shariah" seems like a reasonable concession.  There has even been talk about imposing Shariah rules on the nation's banking system, by none other than some U.S. bankers!

It should be noted however that wherever Shariah has been permitted in the West, it has only grown and never decreased.  Furthermore, in addition to Islamic immigration to Western nations, and the high birth rate among Muslim immigrants, the conversion rate to Islam has also skyrocketed over the last decade...

The converts to Islam are coming from all walks of life and all Christian denominations. Some are Catholic and others are Baptist. No prior religious affiliation seems to generate immunity from conversion. Not even the so-called "born again Christian" demographic can boast of immunity. Slowly but surely, the Western world is turning to Islam, and not even the United States of America is exempt. When the majority of the country is Muslim, it no longer matters where individuals come down on the issue of Shariah, whether it should be personal or public, because history tells us that it always ends up becoming public.

Our governments cannot help us in this, and indeed they have made it clear that they WILL NOT help us in this area. This is a matter entirely for the private citizens to do on their own. The good news is that the conversion rate from Islam to Christianity is just as high. The bad news is this is happening in Africa not Europe or North America. It doesn't have to be that way though. All it takes is for Christians to start acting like Christians again. With a more focused effort toward evangelizing Muslims, combined with a higher birth rate for Christians, we can still reverse this Shariah threat in the Western world. It is possible. Really. It truly is.

TEA Party = Constitution Party

Religious Sisters Join With TEA Party Demonstrators
THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: The third largest political party in the United States is the Constitution Party, and it's been preaching the exact same message as the TEA Parties for the last 20 years...
CONSTITUTION PARTY PLATFORM
PREAMBLE

The Constitution Party gratefully acknowledges the blessing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as Creator, Preserver and Ruler of the Universe and of these United States. We hereby appeal to Him for mercy, aid, comfort, guidance and the protection of His Providence as we work to restore and preserve these United States.

This great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been and are afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.

The goal of the Constitution Party is to restore American jurisprudence to its Biblical foundations and to limit the federal government to its Constitutional boundaries.

The Constitution of these United States provides that "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States." The Constitution Party supports the original intent of this language. Therefore, the Constitution Party calls on all those who love liberty and value their inherent rights to join with us in the pursuit of these goals and in the restoration of these founding principles.

The U.S. Constitution established a Republic rooted in Biblical law, administered by representatives who are Constitutionally elected by the citizens. In such a Republic all Life, Liberty and Property are protected because law rules.

We affirm the principles of inherent individual rights upon which these United States of America were founded:

That each individual is endowed by his Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are the rights to life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness;
That the freedom to own, use, exchange, control, protect, and freely dispose of property is a natural, necessary and inseparable extension of the individual's unalienable rights;
That the legitimate function of government is to secure these rights through the preservation of domestic tranquility, the maintenance of a strong national defense, and the promotion of equal justice for all;
That history makes clear that left unchecked, it is the nature of government to usurp the liberty of its citizens and eventually become a major violator of the people's rights; and
That, therefore, it is essential to bind government with the chains of the Constitution and carefully divide and jealously limit government powers to those assigned by the consent of the governed....

Pope's Subtle Message To Anglicans

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: I want you to take a good look at this picture. Besides it being an outstanding photo of our fantastic pope, I want you to take special notice of his gentle non-threatening gaze, as well as the stole worn around his neck.

A stole is a large piece of cloth worn around a clerics neck. It is a symbol of his ministry and spiritual authority. It is modeled after the Jewish prayer cloth called a tallit. The tradition obviously comes down to us from the apostolic age, as Jewish apostles wore tallitot (plural for tallit) while preaching the gospel to Gentiles. This is why the stole is seen as a symbol of authority to Christians.

Anyway, this particular photograph is very interesting because you see the pope was sitting in Westminster Abbey, when it was taken, where he was to address the spiritual leaders of the Church of England. Westminster Abbey is the primary place of worship for Anglicans. It's sort of like the Anglican answer to St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The stole he wore around his neck was not his normal stole. It was the one worn by Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903 AD). Pope Leo XIII was the pope who elevated John Henry Newman to the office of cardinal-deacon, so since the pope would beatify Cardinal John Henry Newman two days later, it somewhat explains his use of Pope Leo's stole. However, there is a deeper symbolism here, and this pope is well known for teaching through symbols. Pope Leo XIII was also known as the pope who officially declared Anglican religious orders invalid...
Wherefore, strictly adhering, in this matter, to the decrees of the pontiffs, our predecessors, and confirming them most fully, and, as it were, renewing them by our authority, of our own initiative and certain knowledge, we pronounce and declare that ordinations carried out according to the Anglican rite have been, and are, absolutely null and utterly void.
Anglicans are fully aware of this, and the Catholic Church has never once altered of revoked this decree. To this day, Anglican priests who reconcile with Rome are re-ordained properly according to authentic apostolic orders. In declaring Anglican orders invalid, Pope Leo XIII leveled his charge against the British queen, the Protestant British government, and the entire British Empire as well as the whole Anglican Communion. The schismatic actions of King Henry VIII in 1534, and his daughter Elizabeth I in 1559, not only broke the Church of England away from Rome, but they effectively established a whole new religion, wherein the British monarch (king or queen) acted as "pope" with the Archbishop of Canterbury acting as his/her spiritual mouthpiece. The Church of England (Anglicanism) was born, and it was the monarch's church, an extension of the monarch's political and "spiritual" power. What followed was the rise of the British Empire, and it was indeed British schism with Rome that spawned the birth of imperial rule. The monarch armed with the royal military in one hand, and his/her own royal religion in the other, could exercise full physical and spiritual supremacy over his/her subjects wherever the British flag was planted.

Not long after Leo XIII's encyclical declaring the nullity of Anglican orders, the power of the British Empire began to wane. By World War I (1914-1918 AD) the empire was crippled. By World War II (1939-1945 AD) it was finished. Today there is nothing left, save an exoskeleton called the "Commonwealth of Nations" which has not amounted to much, and it is universally agreed by everyone that the British Empire is defunct. The monarchy itself faces irrelevancy while the Anglican Communion has become a disheveled group of member-churches united in little more than name. The Anglican religion and the British empire were one in the same. They were extensions of the Protestant monarch's power. Both are now relics of history. This was the cost of England's schism with Rome. In the short run it brought England wealth and power beyond imagination. In the long run it brought political, social and spiritual bankruptcy. Today, Islam threatens to take over England as it's number one practiced religion.

So on September 17, 2010 Pope Benedict XVI sat in the highest chapel of the Church of England, before the highest prelates of the Church of England, wearing the stole of the man who declared all of their clerical orders totally and completely invalid. What was their response to this symbolic act? They applauded him!

Two days later, September 19, 2010 he beatified John Henry Newman, the high profile Oxford reformer of Anglicanism who reconciled with Rome and became a Catholic cardinal. Obviously, the pope's message to Anglicans here was to follow John Henry Newman's example. Then he instructed the Catholic bishops of England to make wide and generous provision for the Anglican converts that will soon enter the Catholic Church through the upcoming ordinariates.

Homosexuals Taking Over Republican Party

(AIM) - The Palin book had called the Katie Couric interview a trap and she blamed Wallace for the debacle and questioned Wallace’s Republican credentials. Wallace, who insisted that Palin’s charges against her were false, had been a CBS political analyst after serving in the Bush-Cheney White House as an associate of Karl Rove. She has recently been promoting a novel, Eighteen Acres, about a White House sex scandal.

But the real-life scandal seems to be how many secret homosexuals and homosexual sympathizers have assumed positions of prominence in the Republican Party. In this regard, it is noteworthy that the heads of Republican congressional campaign committees, Senator John Cornyn and Rep. Pete Sessions, are scheduled to attend a national fundraising dinner of the homosexual Log Cabin Republicans on the same night, September 22...

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: This disturbing news should not surprise us. Former governor and author Sarah Palin warned us about this in her book "Going Rogue." This fits the pattern of the homosexualist (sodomite) movement in the US and throughout the Western World. While Sarah Palin fights for the heart and soul of the Republican Party I think it behooves Catholics to look for answers outside of the present two-party system. While President Obama seems intent on accusing the TEA Party of attempting to take over the Republican Party, I think another course is far more likely.

While I commend Sarah Palin for her efforts within the Republican Party, and as much as I like her personally, I do believe she approaches the whole "gay problem" with a handicap. Palin was the successful governor of Alaska - a state that recognizes gay civil benefits to same-sex partners. In her 2008 Vice Presidential debate with Joe Biden, she was forced to acknowledge her political support for this, though one could tell by her answer she stayed clear of anything that sounded like support for gay-marriage. That being said, the best Sarah can offer on this issue is a compromised position, and sadly, that is probably the best any "Republican reformer" can offer at this point in time.

The national TEA Parties in contrast are beginning to take on a more "spiritual" side as evidenced by Glen Beck's 8/28 rally in Washington DC. As practicing Catholics the style of this supposed "spiritual awakening" may be unappealing but the underlying message of it is to admit that we are a nation of sinners, that we have wandered away from God, and we ask his forgiveness. That is a message no Catholic can disagree with. That being said however, we should not expect any of this to avert the economic disaster that is coming because we cannot expect God to rescue mammon - his competitor for the hearts of men. The economic crash of America is coming, and unless the TEA Parties can somehow wrestle the Republican Party from the hands of the homosexualists (sodomites) we can expect the TEA Parties to morph into their eventual inevitable outcome - a viable third political party.

It remains to be seen what shape and form the TEA Party third-party will eventually take. Currently, the Constitution Party, already the third largest political party in America, remains poised to fill the need for about 80% to 90% of all TEA Party participants. It is well organized and has been consistently broadcasting the same message as the TEA Parties for the last 20 years.  If you're wondering about the Libertarian Party, it has fallen to 4th place, behind the Constitution Party, even though it's been in existence for twice as long.  This is primarily because of it's radical (nearly anarchist) approach to social problems compounded with it's "pro-choice" approach to the abortion issue.  Even prominent Libertarian personalities (like radio talk-show host Neal Boortz for example) admits the Libertarian Party has been a flop and cannot be expected to ever perform well in national elections.  When it all comes down to the wire, only 10% to 20% of TEA Party participants would strongly identify with the message of the Libertarian Party.  So baring the creation of a whole new political third-party, it looks as if the Constitution Party will swoop in to snatch up the TEA Party demonstrators just as soon as it becomes apparent the Republican Party will not and cannot deliver.  Right now there are bigger fish to fry of course, and we can expect the Republicans to do extremely well in the November 2010 congressional election.  Stopping Obamacare will be #1 on the Republican to-do list over the next two years.  Restoring the Bush tax cuts and cutting deficit spending will obviously be #2.  We can expect Republican successes to be modest at best, as they will be facing a radical Marxist president with a veto pen in one hand and a fist full of executive orders in the other. Simultaneously, the Republicans will be saddled with the worst economic climate since the Great Depression and the threat of a currency crisis (hyperinflation) looming.  They will also be facing a national news media that will do everything within it's power to undercut the Republican agenda.  Meanwhile homosexualists (sodomites) within the Republican Party will do everything within their power to make the Republican agenda sound more "media friendly" and make the Republican Party more "gay friendly."  Of course, this will alienate the values-voters coalition within the GOP and ultimately 80% to 90% of the TEA Party movement as well.  Of course, that will make the Constitution Party far more appealing to values-voters and TEA Party supporters.  All of this puts the 2012 presidential election completely and totally up for grabs in what may very well become a three-way race.

Economic Crash of 2010

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT:  I realize that as of the date of this blog entry (9/21/2010) it looks as if the stock market has averted disaster, and things are on the uptick again with the Dow Jones surpassing 10,700.  However, in spite of all the positive talk out there of how we just "dodged a bullet" I'm sorry to say the end is near.  The market collapse may be postponed for a short time because of optimism surrounding a likely Republican takeover of the congress this November, but politics cannot stop market forces.  It's a house of cards and it is going to come crashing down - guaranteed.  In an effort to keep my readers informed, I am passing on these YouTube videos...

Anglican Catholicism Officially Begins

Blessed John Henry Newman
THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT:  With the beatification of Blessed John Henry Newman completed in Birmingham, Pope Benedict XVI returns to Rome victorious.  His trip to England was a remarkable success, having energized millions of the nation's Catholics and intrigued at least an equal amount of Anglicans.  The noise of anti-catholic protesters was drowned by the cheers of uncountable throngs of supporters upon the pope's arrival in England.  His safety being of primary concern to the British government, half a dozen Muslims were detained for what appeared to be an alleged plot against the pope.  Further investigation revealed no credible evidence and the suspects were released after the pope departed British soil.  While in the U.K. the Holy Father gave an inspirational defense of the Catholic faith at Westminster, in the very place where St. Thomas More was condemned to death by the Protestant regime of King Henry VIII.  Even the most liberal publications in the U.K. acknowledged the historical significance of this event...
(Catholic Culture) - Writing in the Guardian-- a paper that has given heavy coverage to protesters during the papal visit—Andrew Brown writes that the Pope’s address to the nation’s political leaders was a historic event:
This was the end of the British Empire. In all the four centuries from Elizabeth I to Elizabeth II, England has been defined as a Protestant nation.
Brown recognizes the significance of the fact that Pope Benedict based his thoughts on the example of St. Thomas More: a man who had defied the king in loyalty to his faith. He notes, too, that the British Empire arose soon after the Reformation:
Rebellion against the pope was the foundational act of English power. And now the power is gone, and perhaps the rebellion has gone, too.

'The Catholic Knight' agrees with columnist Andrew Brown insofar that the pope's political address does indeed mark the end of the British Empire, British supremacy and the British national religion formally known as "Anglicanism."  In regards to the empire and supremacy, the events of the 20th century should make that obvious.  In regards to the British national religion of "Anglicanism" the events of the last few decades should make that painfully obvious.  The Church of England is stagnant, having abandoned all remnant of apostolic authority, if indeed it ever had any to begin with.  British Christianity has declined under Anglicanism so severely that Islam now threatens to become the nation's top religion.  The Anglican Communion has become nothing more than a disheveled affiliation of disorganized member-churches united in nothing more than name.  The Archbishop of Canterbury, the great right-hand-man of the queen's national religion, has become as impotent as the queen herself, if indeed either the archbishop, or the queen, had any significant power to begin with in the modern world.  In every way, the United Kingdom has become spiritually and socially bankrupt.  The religion of King Henry VIII, and his daughter Queen Elizabeth I, has left the nation that was once "Mary's Dowry" in ruins.  So it is fitting that the modern Queen Elizabeth II should bear the name of her predecessor who essentially created what is today known as "Anglicanism."  Under Queen Elizabeth I Anglicanism was born, and under Queen Elizabeth II it has died.  The latter should not be blamed though, as the poison of Anglicanism's demise was administered 500 years ago.  It just took five centuries to fully run it's course.  Anglicanism is spiritually dead.  That's not some declaration on my part, but a simple statement of the obvious.  The stench of the evidence has been wafting for decades.  All that remains now is to bury the rotting corpse.  Pope Benedict XVI did not do that in his recent trip to England.  He left that job to the British people.  Nor did he come to England to state the obvious.  Everyone knows that Anglicanism is spiritually dead, and to make such an obvious statement is beneath the office of the papacy.

Instead he came to England to shine a light in the darkness and point the way toward a much brighter future.  The Holy Father did this with the beatification of Blessed John Henry Newman, the 19th century Anglican pastor who returned to the Catholic Church, became a Catholic priest and was eventually elevated by Pope Leo XIII to the office of cardinal-deacon even though Newman was neither a bishop nor a resident of Rome.  The current pontiff's actions have much greater significance than the mainstream news media would care to admit.  Blessed John Newman was an Anglican who became Catholic, his conversion was eventually rewarded with much favor and dignity, putting him on the path to sainthood.  Newman was certainly not the first Anglican to become Catholic, but his conversion is very high profile, and in his conversion, elevation and later beatification, the pope has pointed the way home for all Anglicans.  The Holy Father's address to the Catholic bishops at Oscott College ended with the following statement...
The other matter I touched upon in February with the Bishops of England and Wales, when I asked you to be generous in implementing the Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum Coetibus. This should be seen as a prophetic gesture that can contribute positively to the developing relations between Anglicans and Catholics. It helps us to set our sights on the ultimate goal of all ecumenical activity: the restoration of full ecclesial communion in the context of which the mutual exchange of gifts from our respective spiritual patrimonies serves as an enrichment to us all. Let us continue to pray and work unceasingly in order to hasten the joyful day when the goal can be accomplished.
Once again Pope Benedict XVI has demanded "generous" implementation of the Apostolic Constitution he created for Anglican converts nearly a year ago.  Sadly, some Catholic bishops in the U.K. have expressed reluctance toward it's implementation for fear of what may become of ecumenical relations with the Church of England.  The Holy Father has made it clear however, that Anglicanorum Coetibus is a "prophetic" gesture of true ecumenism.

That being said, it stands to reason that what follows is the Vatican's implementation of Anglicanorum Coetibus, as the English bishops cannot act on their own.  So I think it's reasonable to say that something is coming on this - something very soon - and the beatification of Blessed John Henry Newman is a sign marking the beginning of Anglican Catholicism.
