He is a dissident priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford and the author of several controversial books and articles discussing Catholicism. Of the three bishops listed from the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, McBrien writes: "whose good work the incumbent has done so much to undo." That "current incumbent" is none other than Bishop Robert Finn, whose work I deeply admire. Those of us in Missouri can only hope the current incumbent of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, Bishop James V. Johnston, will someday find himself the target of similar criticism from McBrien, as it would appear to be a badge of honor.
